Hey there! I’m Alexia, your expedition leader and guide at The Alternating Current. I created the site because there are tools I wish I had when I was first navigating the crazy new world of being a Creative Explorer.
Now I want to create them for you, to save you from a lot of the floundering I’ve done.
I always knew I was a little different, but kept trying to shove myself in the one-path-per-person box that was shoved down my throat (even by my dad, who is a quintessential Creative Explorer, although he’d never admit to it).
I came across two books that changed the way I saw who I am a few years back. First was Margaret Lobenstine’s Renaissance Souls. Then I found Barbara Sher’s book Refuse to Choose.
Both these books made me realize I’m not broken. My many interests and ability to come up with tons of ideas and my seeming inability to complete much of anything were just fine. In fact, if harnessed correctly, these traits are a strength.
So, with these books and the tools within, I started exploring how I wanted my life to look and how I could tie together all my interests into something that worked for me. My intense interest in Psychology (got my BA in Psych) and addiction to personality inventories, my love of art and writing and information-gathering has finally come together here at The Alternating Current.
