Rennes-le-Château, France. More details are on her website.

Barbara Sher is the author of many books on pursuing your dreams. Most of them are found in the Alternating Current Store. Be sure to check out her message boards at Barbarasher.com as well. Lots of people to talk to, commiserate with and get ideas flowing.

There are also a few other things especially for scanners on her site including Idea Party teleclasses, her radio show on BlogTalkRadio, and even a downloadable teleclass. One thing I encourage all scanners to do is to get in touch with other scanners either in your area or online through Facebook, Twitter, message boards or other social media outlets.

As Barbara says “isolation is the dream-killer, not your attitude.”

This is my blog. Well, actually it’s YOUR blog too since one of my aims is to build a community of Renaissance Souls and Scanners and other people who are wired a tad bit differently than those who can pursue one career all their lives.

The world is changing and Renaissance Souls, Scanners and Slashers are becoming more prevalent, or maybe it’s just that we’re just coming out of the closet since the time seems right.

According to Margaret Lobenstine, it was the 1950’s and the Space Race that made the Western world worship specialists. Especially in the US, the country needed a highly specialized workforce to get ahead of the game, and an entire culture of expert-worship blossomed. Before then, it was more acceptable to hop from one interest to the other. This was a trait of a well-rounded individual. Famous RS/Scanners include Aristotle, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, Leonardo DaVinci, Hildegard von Bingen, Winston Churchill, Florence Nightingale, and Woodie Guthrie just to name a few.

The thing is, none of these people were called lazy, dilettantes or frivolous. They were enlightened, erudite and well-rounded. They were praised for their accomplishments, and made many contributions to society. It’s time to bring back the “Uoma Universale,” the Renaissance Woman and Man. It’s time to embrace your scatterbrained-ness as a strength, as what makes you who you are, and not a hindrance.

So I hope this blog will help us all break out of the “woe is me, I can’t stick to one thing” and embrace our multi-faceted interests and various passions. I will bring in concepts from both The Renaissance Soul and Refuse to Choose!, as well as others to help you figure out how to manage your multitude of passions.

In the coming days I’ll have a glossary and a FAQ so those who haven’t read Margaret Lobenstine or Barbara Sher (among others) will have a better idea of what this is all about.
