What do you do with all those ideas?

I posed a question to my Twitter people yesterday.

What do you do with the thousands of ideas floating around your head vying for your attention?

Here are some of my favorites:

I put them in jars. Or let them sort it out in a gladiatorial fight to the death.Put them in emails and send em to myself, fill up legal pads with diagrams & notes. Napkins, too (of course!)I put them in a spreadsheet :)Write them all down in shorthand of somesort in my notebook.

Mindmaps. Also taking notes on scraps of paper. Then promptly losing them. I find them months later & marvel at my genius :PI write down the ones that feel like a spark. Looking forward to assembling them, looking for clusters and patterns.

Thanks so much for responding everyone! There are lots more, and I’ll add a few to the next post where I’ll also tell you what I’ve been doing with my ideas.

So, if you missed the Twitter question yesterday,  I’d love to hear what you do to corral all your ideas! Please leave a comment below.

Nice ideas! Small, ultra portable, non-digital notebook is my all-time favorite.

    ALthough Evernote is pretty awesome too… ( http://www.evernote.com )

I never really got into Evernote. Tried multiple online and software and mobile app ways of keeping track and I just couldn’t keep it up.

Alexia – I love how you collected this info, and I love reading everyone’s methods. Too often my ideas float through my head and don’t get corralled, but I’m getting better about adding them to an ideas journal….after they’ve floated through small notes and my mobile notebook.

I keep some kind of journal/note-taking thingy & pen on me at all times (in a pinch I’ll use my iPhone & audio notes). I rarely miss an idea that way. And by “mobile notebook” do you mean an iApp or a netbook/notebook computer?

I send myself emails. If I don’t have my laptop w/me, I put it in the “notes” app which camw on my iPod Touch. It emails me that note when I get online w/wireless.

I have an email box called “to myself.” all hose notes go there. I can search there for date, subject or text within the message. It’s imperfect but I can lose a sticky note in less than 5 minutes. This works for me.
